- Conceptual Simplicity of Synchro-Sym -

 

SS-EMS Retrofitting Steps:

  1. Eliminate the "passive" rotor components of virtually any electric machine (i.e., electric motor and generator) system (EMS), such as the internal or external permanent magnets, the reluctance saliency, or the squirrel cage winding;

  2. Replace the passive rotor components with another active multiphase winding set that is similar to the stator armature;

  3. Excite the rotor multiphase winding set (or second armature in the same package and size) with the Brushless Real Time Controller (BRTC) of SYNCHRO-SYM Electric Machine System (SS-EMS);

SS-EMS Retrofitting Results:

  • An EMS (called SS-EMS) with a rotor multiphase winding set and surrounding real-estate (or armature) that "actively" participates in the energy conversion process as does the original EMS stator multiphase winding set and surrounding real-estate (or armature);

  • An EMS (called SS-EMS) within the same package size as the original EMS but with double the original power rating (or the sum of the power of the rotor and stator armatures);

  • An EMS (called SS-EMS) with nearly half the normalized loss and cost of the original EMS, since the EMS loss and cost are always directly proportional (i.e., normalized) to total power rating;

  • An EMS (called SS-EMS) with "factors" higher peak torque than the original EMS, since torque current of a truly symmetrical (or dual ported) transformer circuit topology, such as SS-EMS, can increase far beyond all other EMS before flux saturating the core;

  • An EMS (called SS-EMS) with field weakening, leading, lagging or unity power factor adjustment and correction, higher peak torque, lower cost, higher power density, and higher efficiency than the original retrofitted EMS, such as an internal or external permanent magnet EMS, while leveraging the same customary performance enhancing techniques available to all, such as packaging, dense winding arrangements, special cooling, etc.
